Carshalton (/ k ɑːr ˈ ʃ ɔː l t ə n / kar-SHAWL-tən) is a town, with a historic village centre, in south London, England, within the London Borough of Sutton. It is situated 9.5 miles (15.3 km) south-southwest of Charing Cross, in the valley of the River Wandle, one of the sources of which is Carshalton Ponds in the middle of the village.

Carshalton, situated on the river Wandle, was characterised by its ponds, having several large springs rising there. On the eve of the First World War, the population was around 11,600. The parish was home to the Grove Iron Works and several flour mills, and mint and its famous lavender were grown on the gravel and chalk soil.
