John Thaw. John Edward Thaw, CBE (3 January 1942 – 21 February 2002) was an English actor in television, stage and cinema, best known for his starring roles in the television series Inspector Morse as Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse and in The Sweeney as Detective Inspector Jack Regan.
