  3. May 24, 2023 · Philll. Anything in pink - you are probably allowed to detect there, given that it is owned by the Crown Estate. If you read the Crown Estate's website, there may be situations where tenants/lessees of the Crown Estate don't want detecting and/or there are other designations like SSSI's or wrecks that forbid it.

  6. Mar 6, 2023 · There is a distinction between tidal estuaries and rivers though - a discussion which has been had many times in the forum. Subject to any other restrictions, the Crown Estate permissive right exists between high and low water marks within the estate owned tidal estuaries. Seabed, river banks and river beds are a different matter.

You will be asked to provide details of the area you wish to search, prove that you have the tenant's ok to make the approach, have a statement of what you want to do and why. References from reliable parties such as the County Archaeologist or the FLO always helps and see what happens.

  9. Jul 21, 2018 · Only local knowledge will give you an idea of how strictly the rules are applied. SSI areas are definately a NO NO. The purple bits is just the start and means its owned by the crown. They do lease out some small stretches and they can ban detecting. There my be restrictions due to flora ,fauna or geology.

Jan 26, 2024 · It's an old chestnut this but being purple on the Crown Estate map doesn't automatically mean you can detect there - several of the purple areas will have been leased by the Crown Estate to third parties (such as local councils), or be subject to statutory or local designations - the map merely shows what is owned by the Estate.
