History. [edit] The Osage peoples were the first people that lived in what today is Arnold, many artifacts have been found in the area that show there was an ancient Osage village near where the Meramec River meets the Mississippi River.
Jun 30, 2020 · The granite monument at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis identifies the earliest explorers and settlers in the region, and marks the final resting place of some of them. The first European settler in Arnold was Jean Baptiste Gamache, born in 1734 in Quebec, Canada.
When word spread that Osage warriors murdered House and his young son, settlers nearby named the area House Spring to honor them. In 1826, when Jefferson Barracks was established about 30 miles from House Spring, the U.S. Army began to vanquish native Americans.
