Like many the new version appeared on my TV after Christmas but was downgraded days later to the older version. I've contacted the player people via twitter a few times & was first informed that they were perfecting the app & the update was coming soon.

Feb 3, 2019 · I have always used the RTE player through my Android Box but since the new version launched in December what happens is that it opens normally and when I go to what I want to see I first get all the ads which play normally but when my choice starts to play it stops instantly.This is happening on both my Android boxes which are made by different manufacturers.

If "services" is set to UK the RTE player will not work. This is a software restriction and not geoblocking. The setting for "broadcast" has no effect on the streaming services. Some recent LG models do not have this restriction (e.g. LG C1 afaik) but the LG C2 definitely does. Advertisement.

But it's not a solely commercial channel within ROI, it's state owned media funded from a licence required to have a television or a device capable or receiving a tv signal by law. It's either go down the road of BBC or go down the road of Channel 5, you can't have both. This is Ireland and we do have both.
