- The Court
The EFTA Court is a supranational court that ensures judicial oversight of the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. It has three permanent judges and six ad hoc judges, and is located in Luxembourg.

The EFTA Court is the judicial body for the European Economic Area (EEA), which comprises 30 States, including Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The Court deals with infringement actions, advisory opinions and appeals concerning EEA law, and has a similar structure and procedure to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The EU Courts (Court of Justice of the European Union and the General Court) deal with issues related to the EEA in the EU and the 27 EU States, while the EFTA Court deals with such issues in the 3 EEA/EFTA States.
The EFTA Court is an independent European court, with jurisdiction in cases originating from or concerning the current three EFTA states which are parties to the European Economic Area (EEA) – Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The EEA Agreement is based on an EU pillar and an EFTA pillar.

The EFTA Court consists of three Judges, one nominated by each of the EFTA States party to the EEA Agreement. The Judges are appointed by common accord of the Governments for a period of six years.
