Osu Castle (also known as Fort Christiansborg or the Castle) is a castle located in Osu, Ghana, on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea in Africa. A substantial fort was built by Denmark-Norway in the 1660s; thereafter, the fort changed ownership between Denmark-Norway, Portugal, the Akwamu, Britain, and finally post-Independence Ghana.
Christiansborg Castle is located just off the shores of the vibrant township of Osu, in Ghana’s capital Accra. In 1661, Jost Cramer, the Danish governor of the Cape Coast fort, Fort Fredericksborg, obtained the site for 3,200 gold florins, from Paramount Chief Okaikoi of the Ga ethnic group.
Christiansborg Castle is situated in Osu, Accra on the West African coast, formerly and notoriously known as the “White Man’s Grave.” Its origins began in 1652, when the Swedes built a trading post. In 1661, Denmark purchased the site from the local ruler, Okaikoi for 3,200 gold florins.
