Dec 30, 2010 · Michael Dibdin's second Zen novel "Vendetta" is elegantly written and, for a book now 30 years old, surprisingly fresh and contemporary when re-read. Much more accessible than "Ratking", the book balances a complex plot with some exciting action sequences, notably when Zen is dispatched to Sardinia in the second half of the novel.

Aurelio Zen Series. 10 primary works • 11 total works. The first of the stories, Ratking, won the 'Gold Dagger' award of 1988. This series of detective novels provide a penetrating insight into the less visible aspects of Italian society over the last twenty years. The earlier books have a lightness of touch that gradually becomes much darker.
Jan 1, 2001 · One of Dibdin’s early Zen stories (floppy discs) it was first published in 1990. No problem, I get the feeling Sardinia is pretty ageless and the types of corruption that plague Zen don’t change either. In this book Zen sees the trifecta of corruption—police, political, and business. Vendettas follow.

About Vendetta. In Italian police inspector Aurelio Zen, Michael Dibdin has given the mystery one of its most complex and compelling protagonists: a man wearily trying to enforce the law in a society where the law is constantly being bent. In this, the first novel he appears in, Zen himself has been assigned to do some law bending.

Dec 7, 1998 · Aurelio Zen is an Italian detective working in a police department overshadowed by a corrupt Italian government. I first watched the BBC drama series (and was totally captivated by Rufus Sewell). It is one of the best detective series I have seen. I wish they had kept going with it! The omnibus includes the novels Ratking, Vendetta, and Cabal.
