York is a district and former city within Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located northwest of Old Toronto , southwest of North York and east of the Humber River . Originally formed as York Township, it encompassed the southern section of York County.
The territory of the Pays-d'en-Haut was quite large and would today include the province of Ontario, as well as, in whole or in part, the American states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
Coordinates: 43°39′09″N 79°22′54″W. York was a town and the second capital of the colony of Upper Canada. It is the predecessor to the old city of Toronto (1834–1998).
