Yevgeny Bagrationovich Vakhtangov (also spelled Evgeny or Eugene; Russian: Евге́ний Багратио́нович Вахта́нгов; 13 February 1883 – 29 May 1922) was a Russian actor and theatre director who founded the Vakhtangov Theatre. [1] He was a friend and mentor of Michael Chekhov. [2]
Evgeny Vakhtangov, a thirty year old actor and director of The Art Theatre, who had already made himself a reputation of the best teacher within Stanislavsky’s school, was the one who agreed to guide the steps of the studies in the new-born studio.
