WPC 56 is a British television police procedural series, created and partly written by Dominique Moloney and broadcast on BBC One. The stories feature the first woman police constables (WPC) to join the fictional Midlands Constabulary at Brinford Police Station in 1956.
Set against a heady background of Rock n Roll juke joints and beauty pageants and an underworld of shady boxing clubs, brothels and nightclubs, WPC 56 follows the 2 young officers as they rise to take on serious crime and confront the prejudices of the age at every turn.
