Wonder Woman must find out the truth behind a supposed alien landing before serious consequences occur as a result.

Two young lovers, Henry and Mary Lou, make out in a car while lamenting that they can't get married because their parents hate each other so much the kids would be disowned. As they discuss this, they see what appears to be a UFO flying through the night in front of them. There have been a string of recent sightings in the area, and Henry, hoping to be a journalist, goes chasing after it.

Diana arrives in town to investigate the UFO rumors. She tries to talk to Henry's mother, but a news crew cuts her off to get an interview. Mrs. Wilson is convinced that her son has been kidnapped by aliens, but she doesn't know anything definite. Diana walks off, and Mary Lou follows. Privately, she tells Diana what she knows and hands over Henry's tape recorder, which he'd dropped before disappearing. He describes seeing the craft and a pair of short grey featureless creatures.

The town is soon in a panic, however, as news breaks of a nearby alien invasion. Steve and the rest of the IADC staff watch the TV broadcast of UFOs firing lasers in a one-sided battle against some hapless farmers and police deputies. Steve's assistant, Bobbie, says that the networks have all picked it up, believing it authentic, but that IADC satellites have traced it to an unlicensed broadcast station a few miles out of the town where Diana is investigating.

Diana drives to look for the station, but a row of iron spikes hidden in the dirt road blow out her tires. Her car goes off the road. She transforms into Wonder Woman to haul the car back up the embankment onto the road, but stops when she spots a pair of creatures like the ones Henry had described. However, she almost immediately has to break off the chase when she notices a car about to run into the road spikes. She jumps in front of it, stops it just in time, pulls up the spike strip, and tosses it aside.

Back at the IADC, Steve speaks with his old friend Col. Elliot, the military's top expert in UFO sightings who has more recently been working on a highly classified nuclear missile program. Elliot says he's going to the town to investigate, but admits that he's also been charged with determining whether a nuclear strike will be necessary to stop the invasion.

At the battle site, Elliot finds destroyed vehicles and charred clothing, but no sign of survivors. He reasons that the TV crew must have survived, and wonders where they are. He muses that he's been preparing for years to deal with a potential threat, and it looks like the time has finally come. As the others with him head off to collect their things and prepare to leave the area, two of the supposed aliens come out from behind a tree. They tell Elliot that their superiors are planning to destroy all life on Earth so that they can mine the planet for minerals, and the only chance is for Elliot to destroy the mothership with nuclear weapons. It must be done in absolute secrecy and within two hours because otherwise their superiors will hear of it and move to a different landing site. They give him coordinates in the middle of China. He objects, saying it'll kill millions of innocent civilians, but the aliens press him. They say they'll be on the ship when it's destroyed, but it's the only way to save billions of lives.
