Winter in the Woods. Bob Shea, Wagner Woods Steward. Wagner Woods has seen much more trafic recently than its quiet past. Our sequestration during the pandemic has given people more opportunity to walk outside. It’s an easy, level walk on the old roadway into the property and then on mowed paths around eight acres of hay and wildflower fields.

- Pack a winter picnic. This is our favourite tip for successful winter adventures - pack a bag with a flask of soup and some yummy food. It will help keep everyone warm while you're exploring and it tastes even better outdoors!

- Hackfall, North Yorkshire. Wild and wonderful Hackfall was hailed by 19th century writers as one of the most beautiful woods in England. Hunt out the grottos, glades, rustic temples and follies that hide in the steep gorge and discover treasures around every corner.
- Credenhill Park Wood, Herefordshire. Just 5 miles from Hereford, Credenhill Park Wood is a local landmark steeped in history. It sits on an imposing wooded hill, topped by one of the largest Iron Age hill forts in England and is thought to have once been an Iron Age tribal capital.
- Hainault Forest, London. Just 15 miles from the capital’s centre, Hainault is a perfect countryside escape for Londoners. Four miles of surfaced, multi-user paths lead to hidden treasures including ancient hornbeam pollards, majestic wellingtonia avenues and herds of red deer.
- Nidd Gorge, North Yorkshire. Ancient broadleaf woodland covers the steep cliffs and slopes of Yorkshire’s Nidd Gorge. This very special place is home to a wealth of wildlife, including 80 species of bird.
This track finishes at the lower end of 'The Incline' -with only 100 yards or so left to walk downhill (where the slope is starting to level out).
