William Fairchild (sometimes credited as W. E. C. Fairchild) (January 6, 1918 – May 9, 2000) was an English author, playwright, director and screenwriter. Beginning his career as a naval officer, William pursued writing while serving in World War II. By 1943, Fairchild had published his first book, "A Matter of Duty", under the pseudonym Edward Cranston.
