Marvel kicks off 2024 with Echo, a TV series full of firsts for the MCU. Echo is the first MCU series rated TV-MA, the first released under the Marvel Spotlight banner (more on this below), the first to debut simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu, and it's the first Marvel series with a Native American lead.
All five episodes of Echo will be released simultaneously on January 9 at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET / 2 a.m. (January 10) in the U.K.
Echo will be released on both Disney+ and Hulu. (Those watching on Disney+ will have to set their profile to TV-MA in order to stream.)
Echo, the first MCU series of 2024, is a spinoff of Disney+'s Hawkeye series focused on Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez/Echo. Here's the official synopsis from Disney:
Marvel Studios presents Echo, spotlighting Maya Lopez as she is pursued by Wilson Fisk’s criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy.
Echo is the first series to fall under the new Marvel Spotlight banner, which denotes a project that doesn't require previous viewing or reading to understand. However, there are two series of interest for those seeking background information on Echo's main characters: Daredevil, which introduced Charlie Cox's eponymous hero and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin; and Hawkeye, which introduced Alaqua Cox's Echo. Both series are available to stream on Disney+.
