So there’s a lot of talk about the Silmarillion being impossible to be adapted to live action film or even TV show. Well, what about a more fluid and free flowing medium like animation? Like a long running anime series? I think that would be awesome.
Is Peter Jackson going to direct The Silmarillion? What a fantastic way to return to The Lord of the Rings and Middle Earth.
However, for some time now fans have wondered if there isn't one more work of Tolkien that Peter Jackson could adapt to the big screen. The Silmarillion , preceding both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings , is the project many desire to see adapted to film.
Let's assume that the Tolkien Estate allowed the Silmarillion to be adapted into a movie or show, and there was a big budget involved as well. What would need to be done to adapt it in a way that people would enjoy it and stay true to the text, while at the same time be cohesive?
The Silmarillion will not be able to be adapted until it enters the public domain in many many years from now. Whether it could be successfully adapted or not is pure hypothesis.
