However, for some time now fans have wondered if there isn't one more work of Tolkien that Peter Jackson could adapt to the big screen. The Silmarillion , preceding both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings , is the project many desire to see adapted to film.
I've always thought the best (if any) adaptation for the Silmarillion would be to make it a series or episodes, maybe 45-90 minutes, depending on how the shows writing and pacing would work.

Is Peter Jackson going to direct The Silmarillion? What a fantastic way to return to The Lord of the Rings and Middle Earth.
The Silmarillion will not be able to be adapted until it enters the public domain in many many years from now. Whether it could be successfully adapted or not is pure hypothesis.
