She ordered the construction of a burh—a fortified settlement designed to protect the local population from the threat of Danish Viking incursions.
Warwick Castle is probably better associated with the period before the Tudors -- The Wars of the Roses -- because of Richard Neville "The Kingmaker". But the Earldom of Warwick eventually came into the Dudley family during the Tudor period and was held by Ambrose Dudley , son of John Duke of Northumberland and brother of Robert Earl of Leicester .
