In 1949, the Louisa Street Mission was renamed St. Philip the Apostle. Three years later, St. Phillip the Apostle Parish was established. In 1967, a new church was built and dedicated. Its first mass was held on Thanksgiving Day. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina damaged the church and it was not reopened.
