On 15 November 1977, the very first SavaCentre hypermarket (a Sainsbury's and British Home Stores joint venture) opened at The Galleries. By 2005, however, it had been rebranded as a traditional Sainsbury's as the SavaCentre brand was phased out.
BHS products were gradually phased out from Savacentre’s shelves in the early 1990s, to be replaced in part by Sainsbury’s own offerings. Particularly successful were the Sainsbury’s ‘ Lifestyle ’ label— ‘ a comprehensive range of clothes for all the family’—and its successor ‘ I.N.I.T.I.A.L.S. ’.
Mar 21, 2022 · A video of several iconic images taken of the Sainsbury's at Cameron Toll Shopping Centre have surfaced, which show the store in all its glory when it was known as the SavaCentre.
Due to having two major shops (not just Sainsbury's) this branch is often still known as the London Savacentre. The store was refurbished in 2019. As well as Sainsbury's and M&S, it hosts an Argos store (from 2018) and a Sainsbury's Fresh Kitchen (until 2022).
Jul 19, 2020 · Owned by Sainsbury's and BHS, Basildon's superstore was the third SavaCentre to open in the UK- the other two were in Washington and Hempstead- but this was the largest yet.
