Feb 11, 2024 · Why visit Granville Island? The reason why you should visit Granville Island is because it’s a great market, art gallery, and restaurant district offering a wide range of unique culinary and shopping experiences found only on the West Coast.
- Visit the Granville Island Public Market. The Granville Island Public Market is iconic and absolutely must be your first stop when visiting Granville Island.
- Go whale watching. If you didn’t know already, Vancouver is one of the best places to go whale watching on the entire west coast! This Sunset Whale Watching Adventure Tour from Granville Island is one of my favorite ways to take in all the beauty of Vancouver while getting up close and personal with the whales.
- Enjoy beer from Granville Island Brewing. Those who know us know we love craft beer. You’ll often find breweries in our city guides, and why not? Craft beer is so delicious.
- Enjoy waterfront drinks. Granville Island is located in a beautiful area of the city and is surrounded on all sides by the Burrard Inlet. There are tons of places to grab a drink with a view of the ocean and city in the background, or of the Granville Island Marina.
- Granville Island Public Market. The Public Market is, simply put, a large building overflowing with food! There are stalls and tables filled with fresh fruit, seafood, and meat locally sourced.
- Street Performers. I don’t remember ever going to Granville Island and not seeing a street performer. Normally, there is one in front of the Public Market, and another behind it (as well as other spots all over Granville Island).
- Seawall. Granville Island is surrounded by the Seawall. The Seawall is the world’s largest uninterrupted waterfront path. It is 28km or 17mi and goes from Stanley Park to Spanish Banks Park (near the University of British Columbia).
- Aquabus Ferries. On a dock behind the Public Market, you will find the Aquabus Ferries. For a few dollars, you can ride these ferries all over False Creek (from the Burrard Street Bridge to Science World).
Located in False Creek, it's famous for the Granville Island Public Market where you can get fresh produce, gourmet food, and artisanal handicrafts. Visit during summer when the island is exceptionally bustling with outdoor entertainment acts, or during the holidays for twinkling festive lights.

From its world famous market and award winning improv to shops, restaurants, and views galore, there truly is no shortage of fun things to do on Granville Island, for visitors and locals alike. Touristy as it may be, we love a good visit to Granville Island (which officially belongs to Vancouver’s Fairview neighbourhood).
