Jan 5, 2021 · I was wondering if anyone could give me any input on whether or not I should apply to Reed College? I’ve heard mainly negative things about the school (i.e. it has a big drug culture, low retention rate, grade deflation, & just a “depressing” atmosphere).
Don't go to Reed just because you want to go on to further study. People in my grad school cohort came from schools all over the country, and it's better to excel academically at a different undergrad than struggle intellectually at Reed.
The average Reed GPA is roughly 3.2, and going to Reed does not guarantee that you'll get into a top graduate school or will go on to get a PhD. And if you do, it may involve taking on a not insignificant amount of debt on the way to getting PhD funding.
