Just curious where it comes from. I watched the dub up to episode 1K, than caught up and continue to keep up with the sub. I've never touched a manga in my life. I don't remember seeing the term Yonko mentioned anywhere, though I could be wrong.
TL/DR: Yonko is not a title. Emperor is a title. Each of the Yonko should be addressed as an emperor in order to avoid confusion. There are currently five individuals that holds the title of an emperor. They are considered "Goko of the New World". Side note: I'm not here to say whether Luffy is worthy of being called an emperor at the moment.
Luffy wasn't called the Fifth Yonko (四皇), he's called the Fifth Emperor (皇帝). All Yonko are Emperors, but not all Emperors are Yonko, that's why the title remained Yonko rather than becoming Goko, and why Luffy was never called a Yonko.
The Notable Numeral: They are collectively called "Four Emperors", or "Yonkou" in Japanese. In Japanese, the term "Yonkou" puts an emphasis that the emperor isn't the only one to be called like that, and that there are three other people who share the same title.
