Not to downplay the violence that still happens in Bedford-Stuyvesant, the South Bronx and elsewhere, but last year there were 328 murders in the five boroughs—the lowest since the city began attaining reliable stats in 1963—compared to a record-high 2,605 in the oft-glorified year of 1990.
