The hospital runs on generators 20 hours a day and has to pay up to $20,000 a month for the fuel.
Around 3500 nurses and 1000 doctors have left the country to find better wages abroad since 2020. “The most senior have left”, said Mounes Kalakesh, Director of the Marjayoun hospital, in the red zone and close to the occupied Golan Heights, a highly volatile piece of land, annexed by Israel from Lebanon and Syria in 1981.
