They originally wore blue and white and have used a variety of colours for their home shirts over the years, including black and yellow, red, green and white.
Founded in 1882, the team originally only played friendly matches until they entered the FA Cup for the first time in 1885-86. Nicknamed “the Clarets” (after the dominant colour of the home shirts), they were one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888.
