I am used spark notes and summary slides before and it’s helped. But it’s more to understand a work when reading alongside it instead of reading the Sparknotes in its place. It can be great for modernizing works and Breaking things down, especially if the work is not written in modern English. The problem is most students don’t think like me.

Generally speaking, summaries that include the summarizer’s own thoughts, interpretations, and ideas are considered fair use.
