I was just reading the fandom wiki, and I looked over both Shoya’s and Shoko’s pages respectively, and there’s a bit of text there that’s contrarian in nature. In Shoya’s relationships with Shoko, it says: “He misinterprets Shoko, but it is implied they end up together though.”
The author stated in an interview that there won't be a new chapter or volume showing Shoko and Shoya as a couple, because she didn't want it to be a typical shoujo romance. Edit: changed he to she, as the author is female, just like another person pointed out.
