The Omnitrix is annoying because we go from O.S. Ben unlocking the Omnitrix and rapid transforming np, then in Af he can manually change to any alien by touching the emblem, then he gets the bunk version which never properly works.
The reason why it looks instantaneous is because Time is Subjective to Alien X. Every time Ben is "locked" inside of Alien X its because Bellicus/Serena is making Time be a constant for them, after Universe v Tennyson they stop making time a constant as Ben is engaging them in debates finally.
The Omnitrix recalibrates and Ben gets a new playlist of aliens, losing his old ones. Magister Labrid dies and the trio is formed. Ben and Julie Yamamoto begin dating.
Just realized that in "New Dawn" when Ben starts to cycle through all of his unlocked aliens (other than a few), they appear in order of the series. Like first he gets OS aliens and then AF, then the Andromeda aliens in UA and finally the OV aliens.
