I happen to think that, as his servant, Zant's life force was connected to Ganondorf's. As the physical body that Zant worked so hard to restore perished, so did he.

Dec 24, 2013 · Zant was a weakling in the Twilight World and Ganon appeared in front of him as a god. Zant did not know that Ganon was only using him to escape the Twilight himself. I like to think that Zant feels some remorse in the end and aids Link and Midna in the final moments of the game.
Ganon granted Zant the power which he so desperately desired; he could finally fulfill his wishes and take revenge against those who wronged him. Of course, Zant is just a pawn to Ganon. Ganon is doing this to bide his time, that way he can fully recover from his injury at the hands of the Sages.
