Dec 7, 2021 · Founder Tokuji Hayakawa invented a twist-type mechanical pencil structure by metalwork at the age of 21, and named it EVER READY SHARP PENCIL from its feature of always having a sharp edge. However, at that time in Japan, production of pencils just started, and people still wore traditional Japanese clothes.
In 1913, Hayakawa acquired the patent of an innovative water faucet, and in 1915, he developed the prototype of the Sharp automatic pencil still sold today. Later, he expanded his enterprise into electronics manufacturing of radios, tape-recorders and televisions.
For Hayakawa Tokuji, the numerous gaps and inconsistencies in English-language versions of his story were finally cleared up through the kind assistance of Hiromi Morita of the Sharp Corporation and the material so freely shared by veteran collector Masa Sunami.
