Nov 26, 2018 · Meredith Willson, best known as a conductor, took many years to write his first musical, The Music Man. He started with two ideas: he wanted to create a nostalgic piece about the joys of growing up in the Midwest, and he wanted to write a show about a child with autism.
He is perhaps best known for writing the book, music, and lyrics for the 1957 hit Broadway musical The Music Man [2] and "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" (1951). Willson wrote three other musicals, two of which appeared on Broadway, [3] and composed symphonies and popular songs.
