The English text of the translation is derived from "Sacred Books of the East, Volume 16, The I Ching" by James Legge, 1899. However, the organization of the text has been changed to match the Chinese version and the transliterated Chinese names have been changed from their original romanization to their pinyin form.
The I Ching or Yijing (Chinese: 易經, Mandarin: [î tɕíŋ] ⓘ), usually translated Book of Changes or Classic of Changes, is an ancient Chinese divination text that is among the oldest of the Chinese classics. The I Ching was originally a divination manual in the Western Zhou period (1000–750 BC).
The translation on this site uses the first part of Richard Wilhelm's text, taking a number of existing on-line versions as its basis. Wilhelm compiles and divides his translation of the I Ching into three books, of which Book One is presented here.
