May 29, 2018 · Robert Baden-Powell created the Boy Scouts which grew rapidly into an international educational youth movement before 1914. He wrote Scouting for Boys in 1908, and also coauthored the Girl Guides manual, How Girls Can Help Build Up the Empire, with his sister Agnes in 1910.
Baden-Powell wrote Scouting for Boys (London, 1908), partly based on his earlier military books. The Scout Movement of both Boy Scouts and Girl Guides (renamed to Girl Scouts in some countries) was well established in the first decade of the twentieth century.
In August 1907, he set up a camp for 20 boys on Brownsea Island. The boys had a lot of fun. They enjoyed the adventure so much that Baden-Powell decided to write a book for children. His book was called ‘Scouting for Boys’ – it gave children lots of fun ideas so they could teach themselves skills including tracking and making things.
