Sep 2, 2014 · He wrote a romance novel under the name Katherine Everard that remains a rarity. And as Cameron Kay — a name he borrowed from a great uncle — he wrote “Thieves Fall Out,” a crime thriller set in Egypt during the 1952 revolution there.
Thieves Fall Out is a pulp thriller Gore Vidal wrote under a pseudonym in 1952, and is reprinted now for the first time, and for the first time under his own name. Apparently, Vidal took a look at his writing and didn’t like it much, and so turned down a request to publish; it was his estate that gave permission to Hard Case to go ahead.
Full of well-written imagery, interesting characters, and details of Egypt in the day (Vidal spent time in Egypt in the late 1940s and so he offers some good first-hand perspective), Thieves Fall Out is an engaging and intriguing novel that most authors would be happy to have in their catalog of works.

Yet some of his earliest work was in this area and Thieves Fall Out was first published over 60 years ago.
