The 1984 UEFA Cup Final was an association football tie played on 9 May and 23 May 1984 to determine the champion of the 1983–84 UEFA Cup. The two-legged final was contested between Anderlecht of Belgium, who were defending champions, and Tottenham Hotspur of England.
The final was played over two legs at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, Brussels, Belgium, and at White Hart Lane, London, England. Tottenham Hotspur of England defeated title holders Anderlecht of Belgium, on penalties, after the final finished 2–2 on aggregate, to win the competition for the second time.
Apr 25, 2019 · The previous season, Anderlecht had beaten Benfica 2-1 on aggregate to win the UEFA Cup, and were on course for a successful defence. They had reached the final in controversial circumstances, however, the true nature of which wouldn’t reach the public domain until years later.
The competition was won by Real Madrid of Spain, who defeated Videoton of Hungary by an aggregate result of 3–1 to claim their first UEFA Cup title. Real Madrid became the first Spanish side to win the UEFA Cup since its foundation in 1971.
