Herod Antipas. Herodias' second husband was Herod Antipas (born before 20 BC; died after 39 AD) half-brother of Herod II (her first husband). He is best known today for his role in events that led to the executions of John the Baptist and Jesus of Nazareth.
Herodias and her husband, by whom she had a daughter named Salome, lived in Rome; while a guest in their home, Antipas persuaded Herodias to marry him. Antipas divorced his first wife, a Nabatean princess, to marry Herodias.
Herodias (died after 39 ce) was the wife of Herod Antipas, who was tetrarch (ruler of a minor principality in the Roman Empire) of Galilee, in northern Palestine, and Peraea, east of the Jordan River and the Dead Sea. She conspired to arrange the execution of John the Baptist.
