Apr 27, 2012 · Godfrey MacArthur Cambridge (February 26, 1933 - November 29, 1976) was an American comedian and actor. In 1949 he received a four-year scholarship to Hofstra College to study medicine, which he attended for three years before dropping out to pursue a career in acting.
Cambridge is probably best known for his leading roles in the popular films Watermelon Man (1970) and Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970). In addition to his film appearances, Cambridge was a successful stand-up comedian. His sense of humor, while not alienating to white audiences, did not lack bite.
