Aphrahat (Greek: Ἀφραάτης; Latin: Aphraates) (c. 270 – c. 345 C.E.) was an Assyrian author of the fourth century from Persia, who composed a series of twenty-three expositions or homilies on points of Christian doctrine and practice.
(early 4th cent.), the first of the Syriac Church Fathers. He was an ascetic, evidently holding high ecclesiastical office. His Demonstrations (inaccurately known as his Homilies) were completed between 337 and 345. The first 22 give a survey of Christian faith, the last being an appendix.
