Prey premiered at San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022, during an exclusive screening hosted by Collider, and was released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film on August 5. [ 52 ] [ 53 ] It was also released on Disney+ Hotstar in Southeast Asian territories, on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ as part of the Star content hub in other international territories. Prey is a prequel to the Predator films. Naru is a young Comanche warrior in 1719 who protects her tribe against a Predator. “This is the first time you get to see an Indigenous female action hero at the center of a film. That in and of itself is a really incredible statement,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Amber starred as Kerry Loudermilk in the FX series Legion. She then went on to play Rosa in Roswell, New Mexico. Her next major project after Prey is the live-action TV adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Amber’s father is David Midthunder. He’s appeared in dozens of TV shows and films over the years, notably Comanche Moon, Longmire, Westworld, and Hostiles. David recently appeared in two episodes of the Yellowstone spinoff 1883. Her mother, Angelique Midthunder, also works in Hollywood as a casting director and stunt actor.
Amber is an enrolled tribal member at the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Indian Reservation, along with her father. She grew up in Sante Fe, New Mexico. David revealed to Cowboys & Indiansthat he raised Amber and his sons in “traditional Lakota spirituality.” He noted that they have a “deep family love.”
Amber made her directorial debut with the 2013 short film Don’t. She served as a co-director and co-writer. She also co-directed the short #nightslikethese.
