Stefan Octavius DiMera is a character from the soap opera Days of Our Lives, portrayed by Tyler Christopher from December 29, 2017 to October 2019.
Stefan, originally portrayed by GH alum Tyler Christopher, made his first appearance on December 29, 2017. Christopher vacated the role on March 20 and was replaced by another GH alum, Brandon Barash on March 22, 2019. Barash departed the role on October 11, 2019, when Stefan was killed off, but briefly reappeared on May 4, 2020, during a hallucination. Stefan is the previously unknown son of Vivian Alamain and Stefano DiMera.
In August 2020, it was reveled that Dr. Wilhelm Rolf had revived Stefan.
He is the long lost son of crime lord Stefano DiMera and his ex-wife Vivian Alamain. Stefano never knew he existed. Stefan was conceived when Stefano was posing as Rudolpho Meradi and seduced her to steal her ruby. Although Viv’s manservant, Ivan, told her the baby was stillborn, the infant was spirited away. He was raised as Sam Maitlin and grew up into a cutthroat corporate raider. He's a champion in chess much like his father before him. His chess genius nephew Theo Carver, admitted that Stefan is an excellent player when he played against him, even better than Chad at the time. In 2016, Sam learned the true identity of his mother and confronted Ivan, who revealed the truth. Vivian later told Sam that Stefano was his biological father, so Sam changed his name to Stefan Octavius DiMera specifically, so it could be pronounced as "Stefan O. DiMera".
Stefan is also the half brother of EJ, and Chad DiMera, the late Benjy Hawk, Andre, Lexie Carver, Renee DuMonde, Megan Hathaway, as well as the adoptive brother of Kristen DiMera and Peter Blake and the late Tony DiMera. As of New Years Eve 2018, he is the head of whatever was left of the DiMera family and CEO of DiMera Enterprises.
Since his arrival, Stefan has portrayed many traits of both his biological and adoptive siblings; standing up to Vivian and refusing to do her will in the same fashion as Tony did to Stefano, concocting his own schemes without Vivian as EJ did with Stefano, showing a hidden charm and casual niceness as well as exemplary manners as Lexie did, while also showing a rather hostile nature and portraying almost sinister behavior rather more like Andre and Kristen. In April 2018, Marlena compared Stefan's obsession with Abigail aka Gabby to Stefano's obsession with Marlena in the 90's, and while Stefan insisted he wasn't his father, he reminded Marlena that like his father, Stefan wasn't to be crossed and he vowed to destroy Marlena if she dared to get in his way. He even turned the tables on his own mother, Vivian, later that same month as Tony, E.J. and Andre had all done at some point due to their father's interference in their lives.
Stefan has proven himself to be even more delusional than his own crazed adopted sister Kristen, whom unlike Stefan, had good reasons to snap and become the amoral woman that she is now. In addition, he is sicker than his father Stefano for he is actually in love with "Gabby", Abigail's alter, a woman that doesn't even exist, a fact even acknowledged by his own malicious mother Vivian, indicating how more sick and twisted he is than his father ever was, for at least his obsessions were on a real person. He is not as intelligent nor as perceptive as Stefano as he could not see that Gabi was playing him into thinking that Abigail’s baby was his when in fact it’s really Chads.
In late 2018, he got married to Abigail by the greedy Minister Mendez though she only married him so Chad wouldn't commit her into a mental hospital as she is using his ridiculous obsession with her alter to ensure Gabi's plot against her would fail. In the end, Abigail secretly divorced him after making him think "Gabby" is back and it was soon revealed Charlotte wasn't his and that Gabi played him for a fool.
Much like how Deimos Kiriakis was the most unwanted Kiriakis, Stefan was the most unwanted DiMera, as not even his family considered him to be one of them, which is why he was hardly mourned for after he was accidentally killed by Dt. Lani Price. Gabi, Ben and Ciara, Sonny and Will, Lani and Eli, and Brady and Kristen were the only attendees at his funeral. Sonny and Will were there to support Gabi, Lani and Eli were there out of a sense of responsibility, and Kristen wanted to show her brother that she finally accepted him as a "true DiMera", more likely she wanted to give herself closure than give him peace. His mother didn't attend his funeral as she was on the run for nearly killing her nemesis, Kate Roberts. In the end, only his wife, Gabi Hernandez, and his one friend and supposedly reformed serial killer, Ben Weston were the only ones who truly mourned him.
