Apr 26, 2012 · The man who owns The Sun, Rupert Murdoch, is back in the news again. The 81-year-old's been giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry into ethics in the media industry.
In February 1981, when Murdoch, already owner of The Sun and The News of the World, sought to buy The Times and The Sunday Times, Thatcher's government let his bid pass without referring it to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, which was usual practice at the time.
The Sun is a British tabloid newspaper, published by the News Group Newspapers division of News UK, itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Lachlan Murdoch 's News Corp. [9][10] It was founded as a broadsheet in 1964 as a successor to the Daily Herald, and became a tabloid in 1969 after it was purchased by its current owner. [11] .
