Jun 25, 2007 · Rosa - Quinta de la Rosa was bought in 1906 by the Bergqvist family, who have been making port since 1815 under the brand name Feuerheerd until the port company was sold in the 1930's. The family kept the ownership of Quinta de la Rosa and in 1988 re-started making ports under the name of Quinta de la Rosa (source - 2007 New Douro Tasting booklet, London, October 2009).
Quinta de la Rosa is headed by Sophia Bergqvist. She is the granddaughter of Claire Feuerheerd, who received Quinta de la Rosa as a christening gift from her English grandmother. The Feuerheards, a family of German port shippers, bought the quinta as a christening present for their granddaughter Claire. Her father renamed it La Rosa after a successful brand of sherry his company had launched.
