On December 18, 1974, DeSimone killed Ronald Jerothe, a protégé of then-Gambino associate John Gotti. DeSimone had dated Jerothe's sister and had beaten her up, prompting Jerothe to threaten to kill him.
The movie version of DeSimone’s death is fictional speculation. He disappeared—obviously murdered—and his body was never found. In the movie those are presumably two Lucchese old-timers Tommy would’ve trusted, but they might very well have been killing him on behalf of the Gambino’s to keep the peace.
According to Henry Hill, DeSimone was killed by Billy Batts crew, ran by John Gotti, as revenge for his murder. Batts was a wiseguy and Tommy was not when Tommy killed Batts. Its in the book 'Wiseguys'.

He was likely killed by the Gambino crime family in retaliation for the murder of Bentvena, and also because he’d recently killed a Mafia associate named Ronald Jerothe, who was a protégé of a rising star named John Gotti.
