Wajdi Mouawad, OC, (born 1968) is a Lebanese-Canadian writer, actor, and director. He is known in Canadian and French theatre for politically engaged works such as the acclaimed [1] play Incendies (2003). His works often revolve around family trauma, war, and the betrayal of youth.
Artistic director of the Théâtre de Quat'Sous in Montreal in 2000, then of the Théâtre français du Centre National des Arts in Ottawa in 2007, he was associate artist at the 63rd Avignon Festival, where he created Le Sang des Promesses with Littoral, Incendies, Forêts and Ciels.

Canadian Origin: Montreal, Quebec. Wajdi Mouawad is a Lebanese-Canadian writer and actor. He is the author of Scorched, Tideline, Forests and Heavens, among many others. His plays have been translated into more than twenty languages and presented all over the world.
Director of the Théâtre de Quat’Sous in Montreal from 2000 to 2004, then of the National Arts Center’s French Theatre in Ottawa, he was in 2009 associated artist at the Avignon Festival where he created the quartet Le Sang des promesses (Littoral, Incendies, Forêts, Ciels).
