St John's College is one of the recognised colleges of Durham University. The college was established in 1909 as a Church of England theological college and became a full constituent college of the university in 1919.

St John's College. About Us. A strong sense of community. We are home to a family of about 600 undergraduates and 260 postgraduates from all disciplines and backgrounds. We also have around 100 members of Cranmer Hall, a thriving theological college where future church leaders are educated and formed.
St John’s College was founded in 1909 as a theological college for the training of Anglican ordinands. In 1919 we became a full constituent college of the University and expanded and flourished over the following decades.
St John’s is a college with a rich and dynamic history, which looks to the future with excitement and enthusiasm. With well over 850 students and over 100 staff St John’s brings together a wide range of experiences, life-stories and world views.
St John’s College was originally founded in 1909 to train ordinands for the Church of England, and became associated with Durham University in 1923. However, it is independent from the University, both administratively and financially.
