Katherine Jane Hawley FRSE FBA (1971-2021 [1]) was a British philosopher specialising in metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and philosophy of physics. Hawley was a professor of philosophy at the University of St Andrews. [2] .
May 14, 2021 · John Haldane. Katherine was a person of rare distinction: intellectually gifted, hard-working, and highly accomplished; she was also sensitive and compassionate; principled but prudent and pragmatic. She came to St Andrews from a research fellowship in Cambridge in 1999.
In 1999, Katherine was appointed Lecturer at the University of St Andrews, later Senior Lecturer, then Professor in 2008. We were privileged that she remained part of our community ever since. She met her husband, Dr Jon Hesk from the School of Classics, in St Andrews, and married in 2003.

May 27, 2021 · Greatly admired within her discipline, Professor Hawley was honoured with prestigious fellowships by both the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the British Academy. She died of cancer on 28 April and is survived by her husband, also an academic at St Andrews, and two children.
