Sir John William Laing CBE (24 September 1879 – 11 January 1978) was a British entrepreneur in the construction industry. He inherited his father's building business – which is now known as John Laing Group – in the early 1900s.
James' son, John Laing, took over the company and pursued larger contracts in the region. By 1920, John William Laing had taken charge and continued to expand the business; it became a limited company in 1920 and established its headquarters at Mill Hill in north-west London two years later.

It appears that David went to Jamaica where he and his brother, also John, uncle of ‘our’ Brighton John, had a plantation at St George Parish. David did not stay long in Jamaica but returned to England in 1800 where he died in London on 24th Sept 1800 aged only 39, his youngest child, also David, being born some six days later.
Laing was born in Oxford in 1988. His parents are Penny and Nicholas. He has an older brother, Alexander and a younger sister, Emily. He was privately educated at both Summer Fields School (1997–2002) and Radley College, before attending the University of Leeds, where he studied Theatre and Performance.
