Jan 19, 2024 · Janusz Majewski, who died on 10th January aged 92, was one of the last of the old guard of Polish directors who emerged in the 1950s. He was part of a generation of filmmakers that put Poland firmly on the cinematic map.
Director, screenwriter, set designer, born 5th August 1931 in Lviv (now Ukraine). After theWorld War II Majewski's family moved to Kraków. It was there that Majewski, by then a secondary school student, got to know Sławomir Mrożek, the future writer.
Janusz Majewski graduated from the Directing Department of the State Higher School of Theatre and Film in Łódź in 1960. In the years 1969–1991 he lectured at our School and was the artistic supervisor of many student films.
