For a big medieval MMO, I'm developing a combat system with inspiration from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Mordhau, and Dark Souls. Here's a simple dueling example of the parry system so far. Parries work by positioning your block within a certain angle and distance of an oncoming blade.

Parry is a slap-costing glove added on October 27, 2023, costing 30,000. Its appearance is a heavily armored Gauntlet, with the armor being gold. This glove is required to obtain Joust and the Stand your ground badge.
Parry's ability, "Parry,” will block any incoming attacks for about 1.5 seconds, at which if any other player hits the user, their attack will be blocked, and the victim will be stunned for 3 seconds.
Double jumping will activate the “Dash” ability, in which the user quickly dashes forward.
GLOVE TIPS:
Pretend you are spam slapping to get your opponent to hit you, then quickly use E and stun them. Then slap them and proceed to dash forward and hit them again, most likely resulting in your opponent's death.
Pros
•Low cooldown. •Unlike Counter, you can move while parrying. •Unlike both Counter and Jebaited, you can choose which direction they get knocked. •Good for escapes and juking. •One of the few counters for one-shot gloves. •Can parry Scythe's projectile to stun the user and prevent the Parry user from being taken. •The block ability can be triggered by Orbit, Sparky, Charge, Psycho, Whirlwind, Slicer, OVERKILL, Scythe, and other glove abilities. •This glove can be used like a protection shield. •The ability can be activated in God's Hand's Timestop, though the ability would have to be used at the end of a timestop to actually parry the God's Hand user. •While the victim's stunned, they are unable to slap you. •Exceptional combo potential. Slapping and instantly using the E ability then dashing right after to slap your opponent a second time makes this combo difficult to escape. •If players bait you into using your ability, it won't leave you as vulnerable as Counter. •You can slap and instantly use the ability after, allowing for many maneuvers. •By timing it well, you can avoid slaps from players indefinitely, unless there are multiple players attempting to slap you. •Players may hesitate to hit you due to wanting to avoid being parried. •If you jump, then hold jump right before you hit the ground, you will do a perfect dash, allowing you to skip the bridges in-between islands. •You can do 4-slap combos, possibly even forever with pure perfect timing. Parry > slap > dash > late jump > flick > slap •It is very easy to trigger people to slap you.
Cons
•Players will tend to avoid you. •Can be reversed. (Upon using the parry, if you slap a Reverse user, you will get parried) •Ability doesn't affect Replica's clones. •You can still be hit while you dash. •While you can stun Orbit users with your ability, they do not lose their gloves and will often result in you getting slapped anyway. •If Dual slaps you with both gloves, you will stun them, but you still get slapped. •Elude will still teleport when stunned. •Unable to parry most projectiles, like Ping Pong or Tableflip. •Parrying involves timing. If a player lacks good timing, they could miss a parry and be left vulnerable. •Speedrun users can still move after being parried, causing the need to chase them. This is an unpatched glitch. •Cannot parry projectiles that aren't coded as slaps.
•If Counter, Jebaited, Parry or MR have their abilities active when a Whirlwind or Quake uses their ability, they will trigger the other glove's counter-ability from anywhere in the game.
•Parrying can also be triggered by Scythe's projectile to counter the glove's user.
•The tooltip "Parry this you filthy casual" is a reference to an image meme of knights in "Dark Souls" holding guns while saying this quote. Tencelll sent this meme as a sneak peek for the Parry glove.
•This glove model's mesh has similarities with Necromancer and Alchemist's models, all being slightly edited versions of each other.
•Activating the dash ability while clicking to enter a Slap Tournament will cause you to dash constantly in a straight line until you fall off the tournament platform. You can do the same thing if you have Sparky's ability active when you enter a Slap Tournament. However, this is bug abusing, and is not allowed.
•There is a bug that occurs when you lose your glove from your inventory that causes the Alchemist's ingredients tab to appear.
•Once your glove is returned, the ingredients tab will disappear.
•Parry’s ability is likely based off several dodge and parry mechanics in games such as Deepwoken, Rogue Lineage, Combat Warriors, and other roguelikes or RPGs.

Apr 11, 2023 · I am currently trying to make a blocking/parry system and i want the players who is blocking can be attacked from the back, do i have to use raycast or anything? Are there any examples that i could learn from?
Aug 4, 2024 · you might need to adapt the local script depending on how you want them to parry, and move the code inside the raycastHitPlayer to where you are handling the shot raycasts
